Post PAST Ascalon

If your primary is a Ranger do you choose a "pet" in the beginning or is it just the same as PRESENT Ascalon where you go out and charm it?

People have said that in the PAST a second profession isn't pushed as much as it should be (hence, a lot of one primary characters). Is it mentioned at all so there is a choice given before leaving the PAST behind? If so, how is it brought into whatever light they've put upon it?

Is the warthog in the PAST Ascalon too as you found it on your way to Ascalon before the PAST was implemented? If not, where has everyone else run into a warthog?

The reason I ask is because I failed to start a new character last BWE so I missed out on seeing quite a bit of the new additions. If there are any other variations that people would like to talk about too... I'd love to hear them just to get a general idea about how the PAST was and how it all correlates with the PRESENT as we know it.

Sorry, I can't really make out what you are trying to say, but if one of your questions is if the warthog was obtainable in pre-searing Ascalon, then yet it is.

Edit: ok, I think I understand what you are getting at.

1st Q: You must go out and charm a pet, just like before - but tracking down a pet is much easier than before.

2nd Q: Choosing your 2nd profession is a side quest, one that is given out by the main plot guy (so for those who missed out, it's probably because they rushed and didn't read the conversations). Note that you can still learn a 2nd profession in pre-searing (by talking to the appropriate profession trainers), even without activating the side quest.

3rd Q: already answered at the top of the post.

you have to charm pets with the "charm animal" skill. the warthog was available in the pre-searing ascalon and also in the wilds, post-searing.
the secondary profession is a quest that is given to you by the same guy that lets you join the academy.

woahhh....

those warthogs werent charmable right, cause i think i tryed but it didnt work, so was there other warthogs that were charmable in pre seared ascalon??

on to your q. if u go to one area in the new area, like west from the little town u reach with the prize winnin warthogs theres a portal to a place, where there is the ranger guy, he will give u the charm animal skill, and with it u can catch the stalker up a little north from him, or any other charmable animal u can find.

but anyways were there any charmable warthogs in pre seared ascalon?, and if so where...?

Yep, the charmable warthog was by a watering hole, not far from the amphitheatre where the mesmer trainer was. It's also the only charmable animal I have seen that appears randomly as well (if you don't see it the first time, enter and exit Ascalon again once or twice and it should appear).

IIRC, snow wolves can most easily be found right outside Yak's Bend, the explorable area of Alpine Tableau.

Yeah, there used to always be a snow wolf right outside the door at Yak's Bend, but it wasn't there anymore last BWE. I think you need to get further into the Shiverpeaks now.
